1st March, 2018
Dear Parents/ Guardians,
Our school fund-raising walk-a-thon and ministries activities for the 100th Anniversary of The Church of Christ in China was successfully held on 24th February. We thank God for watching over us and keeping us safe so that we could have a pleasant morning together. The weather was cool and suitable for hiking. When we were walking on the mountain, we enjoyed the scenery of Tsz Wan Shan and chatted with each other. On behalf of our school, I would like to thank you for all the donations, support and participation. The donation for promoting ministries activities for the 100th Anniversary of The Church of Christ in China will be transferred to the headquarters of C.C.C. In addition, the funds raised for the development of our school will be used for improving our learning and teaching facilities. These include setting up a “Amazing Science Corner” on the ground floor to allow students to explore science in a creative environment and enjoy the fun of science; and buying a large number of books so as to broaden students’ horizon. A “Reading Corner” will be set up on the fourth floor to enhance the reading atmosphere at school and help students develop good reading habits.
Speaking of reading, do you hope that your language ability will improve in the New Year? A famous linguist, Dr. Stephen Krashen’s research pointed out that if we can choose texts, including films and songs, according to our interests and ability, our language ability can be enhanced because of the benefits brought by free voluntary reading. When we concentrate on reading a book, we will learn a large number of words and acquire knowledge unconsciously. Reading becomes the process of understanding the messages in the language. Numerous studies have also shown that there is a positive relationship between free voluntary reading and language development. Therefore, it is very important to create a good reading environment and atmosphere. We should choose reading materials according to our interests and enjoy reading.
In addition to enhancing language proficiency, the New Year is also a good time to set new goals. There is a saying, “A year’s plan starts with spring. A day’s plan starts in the morning”. Perseverance and confidence are the requirements for diligence. If we stick to our beliefs and work towards our goals, we can make achievements through hard work even though there are setbacks. The second term test will be from 8th to 13th March. I hope that our students will set their own learning goals, work hard towards their goals and strive for success. With diligence and perseverance, they can harvest the fruits of their labour.
Stepping into the Year of Dog, you can see many places have been decorated with a dog theme. How much do you know about dogs? Dogs have been identified as good friends of mankind since ancient times. Some dogs even become “dog doctors”. They go to hospitals, elderly homes and other places regularly to accompany patients and the elderly and play games with them so as to help them exercise and bring joy to them. I have a dog in my home. When I go to work and return home, it will wag its tail to greet me with enthusiasm. When I am sick or upset, it will keep me company quietly and even listen to my sharing. Dogs are loyal. When they see strangers, they will bark loudly to protect their masters. “Faithfulness" is actually a spiritual trait. We should do everything after God’s heart. As the Bible says, “You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had” (Philippians 2:5). We should all do our best to follow Christ, love God faithfully and be His children.
Easter is coming soon and it is undoubtedly an important festival. It provides us with a great opportunity to ponder, appreciate and experience the hope and significance brought by the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. Jesus Christ saved us from our sins more than two thousand years ago. He was crucified, died and was buried and then resurrected to heaven. The Bible says, “I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). This shows us God's mercy and it gives us hope so we can have peace and joy. In order to celebrate such meaningful festival, an Easter worship will be held on 26th March (Monday) and a P.4 gospel camp will be held from 26th March (Monday) to 27th March (Tuesday). These activities give us a chance to self-reflect, understand the gospel and have faith in Jesus so as to live a rich life. At the same time, a gospel evening will also be held on the night of 26th March. The Bible says, “But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12). Parents and students are welcome to join to praise God and witness His grace.
