Rotary Secondary School and Principal Cheung from C.C.C. Kei Heep Secondary School kicked off the event in a symbolic ceremony. Different subject panels have organized a range of celebration activities, such as designing 3D-printed cell phone stands, toy design competition, a sign writing competition, etc. In addition, all classes have made short video clips for the celebration and the videos together with the theme song will be uploaded on the school website after they have been edited.
The P.1-P.5 tests and P.6 exams will be started from 8th November to 13th November. We have arranged the dates of assessment on Thursday, Friday, Monday and Tuesday on purpose so that students can make better use of the weekend to do revision. Talking about the tests and exams, are you concerned of your children’s academic performance? According to a report conducted by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, children’s academic performance will be affected if they sleep less than eight hours every night. A lack of sleep may cause depression, a lack of concentration in class and a lack of interest in daily activities. Worse still, it will harm their physical health. Therefore, parents should plan an appropriate timetable for their children and help them develop habits of healthy living.
In addition, have you noticed your children’s personality traits? Every child is unique. Letting children to know more about themselves and understanding their strengths and interests is crucial to their growth. I shared with students the three qualities of one of the character strengths, bravery, through three short stories in the morning assembly in early October. Firstly, we need to face challenges. Secondly, we should admit our mistakes and thirdly we should have the courage to tell the truth. Students, do you still remember that? We should always bear in mind that there are always more solutions than problems. Just as the Bible says, “But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!” (John 15:7). Even though there are challenges, we will be able to face the difficulties if we believe that God is with us. Parents can praise and encourage your children more, specifically explaining the reasons for appreciation and emphasize their efforts. You can also teach your children not to compare themselves to others, but to themselves. It is more important that they are making progress. As a result, children will be more aware of their own strengths and get ready for a brighter future.
Learning does not only take place in the lessons, but happens in every moment of life. Therefore, our school is committed to providing students with various learning experiences so that they can have a balanced development. The school picnic will be held on 16th November. Apart from getting closer to nature and relaxing, students can experience group activities and develop a spirit of friendship and unity. Finally, I would like to share a Bible scripture with all of you. “The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams.” (Psalm 23:1-2).
