Dear Parents/ Guardians,

Do you know that learning does not only occur in the classroom and homework is not the only way to help students consolidate their learning. The Self-directed Learning Scheme, which will be conducted during Easter holiday, has created more space for students’ learning. Students can use the GAP principles to set their own learning goals and use their holiday to learn more, master life skills, practice time management and plan to do valuable things and things they enjoy. As a result, we want to help students set goals and plans, and develop the attitudes of being proactive, responsible and self-disciplined so that they can experience the fun and significance of self-directed learning. Parents can also utilize the time to arrange some activities with their children so as to improve communication and establish good relationships through this scheme.

This year has been the third year implementing the Self-Directed Learning Scheme in our school. The Department of Education of Hong Kong Baptist University has conducted a research on this scheme for two consecutive years. It is found that students’ learning abilities, independence, confidence and learning motivation have increased after they participated in the scheme. At the same time, as parents took part in the scheme and gave support, the parent-child relationship has been improved. The Department of Education of Hong Kong Baptist University will continue the research and the latest report will be issued later.

Thank you for all your generous donations, support and participation in the school fund-raising walk-a-thon. The funds raised for the development of our school will be used for improving our learning and teaching facilities, as well as purchasing a large number of books to broaden students’ horizons. We will also use the funds to buy STEM teaching materials so as to facilitate students’ interests and abilities in science and technology. Moreover, I would to thank PTA for helping to collect the donations from parents and students. A total of $99,944.50 has been raised for Li Ngai Ting, Aidan and all the donations have been transferred to the account of Aidan’s parents. Thanks parents and students for your help. It shows the great love of “it is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:25). According to the information provided by Aidan’s parents, they have raised enough funds to cover the medical expenses. Thanks God for His grace and love. Let’s continue to pray for Aidan and spread Jesus Christ’s spirit of love.

It’s a pleasure that our alumnus, Mr Wong Kam-sing, GBS, JP, Secretary for the Environment was the officiating guest of our school’s 50th anniversary ceremony. In his speech, Mr Wong shared five tips for learning, which are “to observe carefully, to listen attentively, to ask proactively, to jot notes and to learn wholeheartedly”. Also, he introduced the “Big Waster” Facebook and “Low Carbon Living Calculator” and encouraged to contribute to environmental protection and live a “waste less and low carbon” living style. The videos have been uploaded on the school webpage so that parents and your children and review the wonderful content.

Mr Yim Kin Wa, Miss Chan Pui Jing and Miss Kwong Wing Yi will accompany twenty-three students to join an exxchange programme in Beijing from 1st to 4th April. Apart from visiting the tourist attractions, students will visit the China Aviation Museum to witness the greatness of China's space science and technology. This is really a valuable learning opportunity! I would like to thank all the teachers involved for their efforts and all parents’ support. I hope that students can gain a wide variety of learning experiences through this activity.

Easter is coming soon. Let’s take this opportunity to ponder, appreciate and experience the hope and significance brought by the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. Jesus Christ saved us from our sins more than two thousand years ago. He was crucified, died and was buried and then resurrected to heaven. This shows us God's mercy and it gives us hope so we can have peace and joy. A P.4 gospel camp will be held from 12th to 13th April to enable students to self-reflect, understand the gospel, have faith in Jesus and live a rich life. Also, an Easter worship will be held on 12th April. In the evening, Magic Gorgon Mr Chan Wing Tai has been invited to perform magic at our school. He will incorporate messages from Bible into his magic so that the audience can experience a different way of preaching. We are glad to invite you to join the event with your children, friends and relatives to praise out Lord with hymns, witness the grace of God and have a joyful evening. “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path” (Psalm 119:105). As long as we rely on God at all times, we will be able to receive the great love of Jesus Christ.

Sincerely,

Chiu Kit Wa
