The school bell has rung! Let’s give a warm welcome to our P.1 students and new students joining our Kei Tsz family. Our school was interviewed by Hong Kong Economic Times in July and the content was about the “My Summer Self-directed Learning Programme”. In this programme, the summer holiday workbooks have been replaced by our school-based learning booklets, which consist of interesting topics and allow students to reflect upon their daily experiences.
Apart from conventional writing, students are encouraged to express their ideas through other creative alternatives, such as pictures, sounds or videos. We aim to cultivate their creative thinking and improve their self-learning abilities through such unusual “summer holiday assignments”. The content of the interview was published in Hong Kong Economic Times (27thJuly) and Sky Post (6thJuly). The reports have been uploaded on our school webpage under Latest News for your reference.
Concerning the mosquito control issue, our school has been implementing a series of anti-mosquito measures. In addition to installing mosquito killer lamps in classrooms, we have increased the number of lamps on the ground floor and the second floor. In the campus, places where stagnant water is easily accumulated are inspected frequently and larvicidal oil is applied monthly to stop mosquitoes from breeding. Moreover, pest control service has been arranged regularly. Although our school has carried out sufficient measures to prevent mosquitoes from breeding, parents can decide if their children need to wear long-sleeved uniform to school. In fact, our school strives to create a comfortable and safe learning environment. Therefore, a number of renovation projects and facility upgrades were implemented during the summer holiday, including re-painting walls in all classrooms, purchasing new notice boards, basins and taps in classrooms and a wide variety of books for the library, washing all air-conditioners and refilling the refrigerant, painting the playground, replacing the wooden doors at staircases and lighting equipment on LG2, renovating the reception desk and trophy cabinets, replacing benches, etc. Moreover, in order to arouse students’ interest in scientific inquiry, increase their scientific knowledge and self-learning skills, the “Science Zone” will be set up on the ground floor. It is hoped that students can learn about scientific principles when they are having fun playing with the distorting mirrors. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your generous support in the school walk-a-thon which provided us with resources to construct a better learning environment.
Students, what was the experience that made you happy last? Have you ever thought about what elements constitute ‘happiness’? According to the PERMA Positive Psychology proposed by the American psychologist Dr. Martin E.P. Seligman, there are five elements constituting happiness, including ‘Positive Emotion’, ‘Engagement’, ‘Relationship’, ‘Meaning’ and ‘Achievement’. We could enjoy a more satisfactory and positive life if we have these five elements. So what could we do to capture more happiness and lead ourselves to a better life? Dr. Seligman further pointed out that the key is to find out one’s character strengths. There are twenty-four character strengths in total, including bravery, sincerity, appreciation of beauty, love and being loved, self-control, interests in studies, gracefulness, perseverance and social intelligence, etc. Developing these strengths in our daily situations could help us experience the PERMA life mode, which would make our lives more positive, increase our strengths and resilience.
Our major concerns in the coming three years are to “establish a positive campus and cultivate students with positive values and attitudes” and “strengthen the reading culture and cultivate students’ self-directed learning skills”. We are committed to promoting positive education and reading. Students can know more about themselves and live a happy and positive life through the formal and non-formal curriculum. Also, parts of the Charges and Fees for Specific Purposes have been used to employ a library assistant, who will help promote reading at school. We hope that students can develop a positive reading attitude, strengthen their self-learning ability and establish good reading habits.

Kei Tsz Primary School is a loving and caring Christian school. It is full of laughter here. We create opportunities for our children and give them encouragement and support so that they can have more freedom and room to learn and try. We teach our students with words from the Bible and its guidance so that they can thrive. Education not only inherits the past, but also creates the future. We hope that our graduates can get used to the new learning environment and enjoy their secondary school life. Finally, I want to share a Bible scripture with you: "You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever" (Psalm 16:11).
Finally, I wish you all good health and a joyful start to the school year!
