I thank God for His leading and blessings for the sermon held in the evening on 12th April. More than two hundred parents and students came to listen and know more about His words, and we had a great time together. The activities of that evening were plentiful. The participants learnt about the salvation of Jesus Christ and biblical truths through worship, testimonies and a magic show. There were also some brothers and sisters there to explain the gospel. I would like to thank the Church of Christ in China Chi To Church and Mr Gordon Chan for their coordination and ministry. May God continue to bless our school so that we can take more initiative in preaching God’s word and enable more people to receive the grace of God.
Parents, were your children able to achieve their goals during the Easter holiday? Did they make good use of their time to do some activities good for their physical and mental fitness? According to a study conducted by the University of Michigan, children in this era spend 50 percent more time doing homework than what the children did thirty years ago whereas the time spent doing exercise decreased by 20 to 60 percent. Doing exercise has a lot of benefits. It not only helps the brain to develop, but also allows children to improve their perservence and cultivate the spirit of overcoming difficulties from the process. Let’s encourage our children to develop a good habit of doing exercise.
In addition to having a healthy body, it is also important for children to develop their strengths in life. A video ranking first in the TED Talk presentation series, "Creative School", Sir Ken Robinson mentions that schools should allow students to develop their personal interests and strengths, and to allow students to learn at different paces. This is similar to the rationale of our school-based Self-directed Learning Programme. This programme enables our students to set their learning goals, monitor their progress, and learn to manage their time. In fact, the emphasis of the programme is not whether students can achieve their goals, but is to let them learn that the process is more important than the results. Children can learn incredibly through experiences. The more they experience, the deeper they feel and the more they are able to cultivate positive and optimistic attitudes towards life.
Learning does not only occur in the classrooms, but happens everywhere, in every experience and every detail of life.
Our school has always been committed to broadening our students’ all-round learning experiences so they are given opportunities to paricipate in cultural exchange activities in different places. This year, our school will organize a two-day and one-night "Guangzhou Cultural Exchange Tour". Together with vice principal Mr Chung and teachers, I will bring P.5 students to visit Guangzhou Jiubuqian Primary School, where they will attend classes and engage in activities such as an arts exchange. Please pray for the event.
The Outstanding Student Election aims to praise students who have demonstrated excellence in academics, services, conduct, and activities. The interview and voting process will be conducted in May. The election allows all students to participate and encourage each other. Please encourage your children to support this event. We should try our best to help children build self-confidence by praising and encouraging them. When children have self-confidence, they are more willing to explore, to try their best and strive for their goals even if they face some difficulties.
The second Sunday of May is Mother's Day. Will your children make cards, sing or play a song for their mums to show their love? Children, when you are performing for or giving a card to your mother, don’t forget to give her a big hug and say “I love you!” We can also make a three-dimensional carnation card for our mothers. I think these small gifts will make Mums happy for a long time! Just like what the Bible says, “So give your father and mother joy! May she who gave you birth be happy” (Proverbs 23:25). God’s love makes us different! Let’s grow in Jesus’ love, always be grateful and be kind to everyone around us. Lastly, let me share a bible verse to you as an encouragement: “You gave me life and showed me your unfailing love.” (Job 10:12).
May you be blessed with good health and may God’s grace always upon on you!
